Gentle South Winds: Narratives of the Tropical Island’s Land

2026.07.09 - 2026.10.08

The EVERRICH Foundation is dedicated to promoting Taiwanese arts and culture. This exhibition centers on southern Taiwan, presenting a design language unique to the region. Bathed in intense and abundant sunlight, southern Taiwan gives rise to distinctive landscapes and rhythms of life. Whether in the cycles of nature or the shifting traces of human memory, the relationship between people and the land remains in a continuous state of movement and transformation. Artist Hsin-pi Chang has long been attentive to the generation and transformation of land energy. Through close observation, his work reveals the vitality of coexisting life forms and precisely captures the sensory experience of “heat” shaped by the southern climate. Artist Wen-ting Tseng focuses on Taiwan’s coastal environments, agricultural landscapes, and botanical diversity. Through color, texture, and a sensory visual language, her works evoke an inner landscape formed by the intertwining of emotional experience and natural memory. Though working in distinct artistic vocabularies, both artists respond to the life experiences embedded in the land and to the deep emotional connections between humans and nature.

The selected works in this exhibition place particular emphasis on the “light field” of southern Taiwan and the cultural qualities it shapes. In art history, light is understood as a way of perceiving the world—one that reflects both the land itself and the inner landscape of the human mind. Through vivid, richly layered colors and emotionally charged brushwork, the artists express the intense sunlight and humid heat of southern Taiwan, evoking a distinctive, sensory “field of light.” The land itself carries the memory of generations of labor and the beliefs people hold about life, becoming both a cultural identity and a spiritual anchor. The artists transform the raw vitality and natural textures of southern Taiwan into visually powerful artistic dialogues, offering travelers a vivid “landscape postcard” of the region. Through these works, we invite viewers to explore the deep relationship between Taiwan’s natural environment, land-based production, and the human perception of life.
