To encourage outstanding students from underprivileged families in Taoyuan City, the Yungray Charity Foundation, established by EVERRICH Duty Free Shop, awarded its scholarships for the 23rd consecutive year. Today (29th), after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation held its first in-person award ceremony since the outbreak. A total of 150 elementary and junior high students received scholarships. The event also featured a charity market and a live performance by the Paper Windmill Theatre, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The foundation expressed its hope that the scholarships would inspire students to strive for academic success while also calling on the public to support charitable causes and bring more warmth and hope into society.

Funded entirely by profits from EVERRICH Duty Free Shop without external donations, the Yungray Charity Foundation has provided scholarships to outstanding students from low-income families in Taoyuan since 2003. Even during the pandemic, when EVERRICH’s revenues were significantly affected, the foundation continued to offer support. To date, nearly 2,400 students have benefited from these scholarships totaling more than NT$6.5 million. This year, 70 junior high students and 80 elementary school students each received NT$3,500 and NT$2,000, respectively. Among the recipients was I-pei Li of Singming Elementary School, who, despite living with spinal muscular atrophy, has demonstrated remarkable resilience and academic excellence. In addition to receiving the Yungray scholarship, she was also honored with this year’s Presidential Education Award.

The foundation also hosted a charity market featuring 25 booths, including food trucks, sales of cultural and creative goods, interactive games, secondhand sales, and public service information booths. Local Taoyuan residents were invited to join the event and contribute to the charitable efforts. Beloved by families, the Paper Windmill Theatre performed “Taiwan Fantasia (台灣幻想曲),” a production filled with creativity and imagination, encouraging children to pursue their dreams with confidence.

Education must not be neglected, and children must not be deprived. Upholding the founding philosophy of altruism advocated by Simon Chiang, the foundation founder and EVERRICH Duty Free Shop Chairman, the Yungray Charity Foundation has long provided support for low-income households and emergency relief, offering services and benefits to children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities, allowing them to feel the warmth and goodwill extended by EVERRICH. Through this initiative, students are not only encouraged to pursue academic achievement but are also instilled with a spirit of giving back—receiving love from society and, in turn, learning to give it back with the same passion and sense of responsibility.
